Kate Winslet brings typical depth and gravitas to the life of war photographer Lee Miller, a passion project for her, realised after almost a decade in the making.
After glamorous careers in New York as a model and Paris as a photographer, Lee is suddenly confronted with the ravages of WWII in Blitz-torn London, and abandons her refined life to show them to America. In this, she finds new strength and connections even as she faces greater danger and horrors – but these will continue to haunt her long after the war. Directed by feted cinematographer and documentarian Ellen Kuras, the film vividly evokes the contrasting chapters of Miller’s amazing life, and more crucially tracks the incredible emotional journey of the fearless, talented, and clear-eyed woman who crossed them, inhabited by Winslet in another gripping turn.
