Sandra Hüller and Hanns Zischler star in this biographical drama film, playing famed German writer Thomas Mann and daughter Erika, who embark on a cross-country road trip in 1949.

Directed by Paweł Pawlikowski and following his previous historical genre black-and-white films (Ida & Cold War), this film is considered the last part of a personal trilogy. Pawlikowski explores themes of family heritage and adopts true historical events to expand a sensation of lived-in experiences from his own life, from the page to the screen.

Fatherland has been selected as the Polish entry for Best International Feature at the upcoming 99th edition of The Academy Awards. After its world premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Pawlikowski walked away with the Best Director award.
