What happens when your neighbour goes completely wild?
In rural Devon, two neighbouring farmers – both, rather conveniently, called Derek – find themselves worlds apart in their approach to the land.
Farmer Derek Banbury believes in intensive farming and is horrified by what he sees as the “devastation” of his neighbour’s once-productive farm. Meanwhile, dubbed a “maverick rewilder” by the media, Derek Gow is a former sheep farmer determined to transform his land into an oasis for nature. Their opposing views on agriculture set the scene for a clash of convictions, with the future of the countryside at stake.
Filmed over three years, this lively documentary follows the Dereks’ turbulent relationship as tempers fray, wild animals (and humans) run amok, and the landscape undergoes radical change. Blunt, funny and heartwarming in equal measure.
