George MacKay and Callum Turner star in a haunting, metaphysical Cornish drama, where time and identities collapse against a mesmerising maritime landscape.
A struggling, near-lifeless fishing village is jolted awake when a fishing boat, lost with its crew thirty years ago, suddenly reappears at the docks. When two men take it back out, they return to find themselves in 1993, and a richer and more hopeful community – leading to difficult questions about where (and when) each of the newcomers stands. Building on his hit drama Bait and surreal folk horror Enys Men, writer-director Mark Jenkin brings his bleak but riveting vision to science fiction: grounding a labyrinthine plot in unsentimental drama and gorgeous 16mm cinematography. His vision dominates (he also edits/shoots/does the music), but the cast excels too, as ordinary people living with incomprehensible circumstances.
