Christmas candy confection rarely comes sweeter than Richard Curtis’ festive chocolate box assortment, collectively known as Love Actually.

Love, as Andy Williams once sang, is a many splendored thing, and in the ten occasionally interlocking stories that make up this warm hug of a film we get to see many different forms of love, be it work place romances (Martin Freeman and Joanna Page), the love of a parent for their child (Liam Neeson and Thomas Brodie-Sangster), holiday romances (Colin Firth and Lucia Moniz) or merely old friendships (Bill Nighy and Gregor Fisher).

Set in a London so beautifully shot that it’s almost a character in its own right, Curtis’ directorial debut plays-out over the five-week run up to Christmas. However, like all the best desserts, a little bit of sharp is needed to balance out the sweet. So in between the warm and fuzzy moments there are some genuinely heart-breaking scenes too, which all just add to the richness of the concoction.

A modern-day Christmas staple.
