De la Comédie-Française

A brisk new French comedy explores the web of unfortunate events behind the world’s oldest theatre company.

A jewel of France’s cultural crown since its founding in 1680, the Comédie-Française prides itself on never cancelling a show – leaving its producer Nina in a bind when her lead actor fails to materialise. As the hours before curtain for Macbeth count down, a chain of accidents, grievances, liaisons, and fights continues to accelerate: soon only quick thinking, and possibly a miracle, can keep the show together.

From the creators of the sharp mini web-series Broute but starring the real theatre company’s players (one former director plays the lift boy), the film dissects stage prestige with rapid-fire wit, combining turbulent but grounded farce with a genuine love for the medium and the flawed, fractured groups keeping it alive.
