Working from a script by The Menu writer Seth Reiss, Kogonada (Columbus, After Yang) brings his careful cinematic touch to an extraordinarily sweet story, where otherworldly whimsy complements a serious, mature story of life reawakening.
Beautiful visuals and a score by Ghibli’s Joe Hisaishi never overshadow Robbie and Farrell, who make the emotional journeys at its centre both convincing and irresistible.
