Ridley Scott and an all-star cast paint the Italian fashion dynasty in a lurid, spectacular melodrama.
Based on Sara G. Forden’s book, the film charts Gucci’s rise from small family workshop to vast corporate empire, with special focus on one figure: Patrizia Reggiani, in a vampiric performance by Lady Gaga, who married into the house just as fierce legal infighting, obscene luxury, and a void of personal responsibility were destroying it. Seen by her domineering father-in-law (Al Pacino) as mercenary climber, she backs her feckless husband into seizing control of the business from him, with the help of their unscrupulous brother Paolo (Jared Leto) - but when he tries to regain control, she takes drastic measures. Scott renders history as a grotesque, irresistible soap opera. The Gucci family have not approved the film.
