In this lush musical, Disney’s milestone film tells the story of a magical family whose home was built on an encanto - what Colombian culture reveres as a place of magic.

The Madrigals are an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift - every child except Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.

This magical realism has strong ties to Latin America, particularly Colombia, (think Gabriel García Márquez!) often something magical or supernatural is seamlessly integrated into a portrayal of the realistic. Rather than this magic being something granted to them by a fairy - magic is used to highlight a reality, an extension of someone’s emotion or character. Encanto is a must-watch!
