Welcome to the Overlook Hotel, a grand and secluded resort nestled high in the picturesque Rocky Mountains. Enjoy your stay - but remember, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy…
Stanley Kubrick’s landmark psychological horror follows Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) as his appointment as the Overlook’s winter caretaker takes a sinister turn. Isolated from the outside world with his wife and young son, Jack gradually descends into violent madness as the hotel’s dark history begins to reveal itself. For behind its grand halls, empty corridors and seemingly silent rooms, something else may be lurking.
Although adapted from Stephen King’s acclaimed novel, The Shining is unmistakably Kubrick: meticulously composed, deeply unsettling and unlike any horror film that came before it. Shot at Elstree Studios, the film transforms the hotel into a haunting labyrinth where isolation, paranoia and the supernatural collide.
