A true-life spy thriller - the story of an unassuming British businessman Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch) recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history.

At the behest of the UK's MI6 and a CIA operative, Wynne forms a covert and dangerous partnership with Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) in an effort to provide crucial intelligence needed to prevent a nuclear confrontation and defuse the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Cumberbatch is a calm force throughout. While seemingly accurate to Wynne’s disposition, it makes the addition of Rachel Brosnahan and Jessie Buckley all the more welcome. Brosnahan plays CIA agent Emily Donovan, and Buckley plays Wynne’s wife, Sheila. Both add compelling and familiar relationship dynamics to the otherwise distant exchanges between Wynne and Penkovsky in lacklustre locales. The heightened level of emotion these supporting roles provide, propels the story and Cumberbatch forward, keeping you engaged as they approach a climactic ending.
