In 1966, single-mother Helen Reddy left her old life in Australia for New York and stardom, only to find that the industry would not take her seriously.

When Helen landed in New York all she had was a suitcase, $230 in her pocket and her three-year-old daughter Traci, by her side. Within weeks she was broke. Within months she was in love. Within five years she was one of the biggest superstars of her time, and an icon of the 1970s feminist movement, who wrote a song which galvanised a generation of women to fight for change.

Reddy penned lyrics such as "I am woman, hear me roar" and "I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman" - after struggling to find other songs which reflected her pride in being a woman.

Connected by their country of origin, actress Tilda Cobham-Hervey grew up as a circus performer and only started acting a few years ago, appearing in movies like Hotel Mumbai, before landing the lead as Helen Reddy. Evan Peters (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Pose) stars alongside Cobham-Hervey, as her manager husband Jeff Wald, and Danielle Macdonald (Dumplin’, Patti Cake$) as rock writer Lilian Roxon.
