Imagine Richard Curtis adapting Bake Off and you’re close to the sugar high of this slice of cinematic comfort food.

Determined to fulfil her late mother’s dream of opening a bakery in charming Notting Hill, 19-year-old Clarissa (Shannon Tarbet) enlists the help of her mother’s best friend Isabella (Shelley Conn) and her eccentric estranged grandmother Mimi (Celia Imrie).

Three generations of women will need to overcome grief, doubts, and differences to honour the memory of their beloved Sarah (Candice Brown, winner of the seventh series of The Great British Bake Off) while embarking on a journey to establish a London bakery filled with love, hope and colourful pastries from all over the world.

Jake Brunger’s smart script asks the question ‘there are four other bakers within five minutes’ walk. What makes yours so special?’ and director Eliza Schroeder answers it by clutching the city’s ethnic diversity to her movie’s heart. While Love Sarah is set in a chocolate-boxy west London, full of quaint mews, dance studios and cutesy boutiques – it’s also a place of community, congregation and diversity.
