From rom-com power-duo: director Roger Michell and writer Richard Curtis, Julia Roberts delivers a top performance as she falls for Hugh Grant in this enduringly adorable, warm-hearted love story.
Hugh Grant is William Thacker, an average bloke and bumbling bookshop owner whose humdrum existence is thrown into turmoil when (unbeknownst to him) the world’s most famous actress Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) appears in his shop. Anna buys a book from William's shop and later collides messily with him on a street corner. She accompanies him home to clean herself up, and from there springs an unlikely romance. However, the path of true love is littered with obstacles, not least the media, the adoring fans and the differences in their lifestyles.

Add to the mix William’s outrageous housemate Spike - the role that made a star of Rhys Ifans and the wonderful (but since it’s release, sadly lost) Emma Chambers as William’s wacky sister, Honey. Not forgetting a pre-Downton Hugh Bonneville as the dopey Bernie. For all its cheesiness, Notting Hill provides a very great deal of pleasure, and a year-round indulgence, not just a Valentine’s viewing!
