A perfectly-timed legal thriller that sees Avengers star Mark Ruffalo learn a secret regarding an all-powerful company. The pursuit of which could destroy his career, his family, and his life.

Based on the 2016 article "The Lawyer Who Became DuPont's Worst Nightmare", Todd Haynes directs this true story after brilliant work on films such as Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There and the 2015’s Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara-starring Carol. His lead, Mark Ruffalo, has become most famous for on-screen anger as Bruce Banner / The Hulk. But in Dark Waters, it is the chemical conglomerate DuPont who won’t like him when he’s angry. Not known for keeping quiet about politics in his personal life, and regularly championing environmental causes, in particular campaigning against fracking, Ruffalo is a deft bit of casting for the role of Robert Bilott.

When attorney Robert Bilott is approached with the information that chemical company DuPont is secretly culpable in a string of unexplained deaths, he decides to take on the lawsuit that begins to put his career, his wife (Anne Hathaway) and his safety at grave risk.
