ABOUT THE ODYSSEY

The Odyssey, St Albans is a historic cinema on London Road with its origins dating back to 1908.

In 2010 the building was purchased, after 15 years in a derelict state.

A tremendous local campaign helped raise the money to restore the cinema to its 1930s era design.

In May 2013, building work began and by November 2014 it was ready to begin the latest chapter in its long history.

Showing a wide selection of titles each month. Including new releases, foreign language films, cult rep screenings and classics.

Our large single screen has 426 seats in total. 216 in the balcony and 210 in the downstairs seating area.

The cinema boasts two fully stocked bars. One is situated in the foyer and one in the downstairs seating area, with both bars remaining open throughout the films.
Please see the 'Our History' page below for even more info!

HOUSE RULES - FOOD & DRINK

Outside food and drink is not permitted in the cinema. Bringing in outside alcohol is a breach of our licence.
Birthday cakes (especially with candles) are not permitted in the cinema or foyer.
Our licence does not permit us to sell alcohol before midday.

ARE YOUR TOILET FACILITIES STILL OPEN FOR CUSTOMERS?

Please practise social distancing and good hygiene (i.e. washing your hands thoroughly).

Hand sanitiser stations are available on the wall outside all toilet entrances. The toilets will be cleaned/sanitised before, during and after each and every performance.

To avoid overcrowding please adopt the same principle of queueing as you would throughout the building

CAN I BRING MY BABY INTO A SCREENING?

Although we do not plan on having specific parent and baby screenings (the building is too big and dark to offer these) you are welcome to bring babies to U, PG, and 12A rated matinées (afternoon performances before 5pm).

Buggies can be left in the foyer during the film. Babies must be held in the screen. Disruptive babies should be taken out of the screen until they are settled - but if this is due to the film being too loud - please speak to a member of the team behind one of the bars and we can contact the projectionist to adjust this.
