Aaron Taylor-Johnson headlines a gripping, intricate British thriller with surprising depths of character.
One busy morning in the centre of London, construction workers find a large unexploded bomb from WWII, threatening hundreds and triggering panic. As police race to evacuate the area and a crack defusal team sets to work on the bomb, a mysterious third group sneaks into the area with its sights on a bank vault below – plunging the others into an impossible dilemma.
Though small in scale, seasoned thriller director David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water, Relay) and writer Ben Hopkins (Inside) lift the film above standard action fare, balancing a riveting, carefully composed set-up with a layered and equally unpredictable wider mystery, all compressed into 96 minutes. A strong supporting cast including Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Theo James keep every step believable.
