A classic farce with very modern relationship dynamics, Splitsville spreads the comedic wealth across its well-balanced ensemble.
After The Climb (2020), a both funny and cruel portrait of male friendship, Michael Angelo Covino presents a new take on human relationships, this time confronting viewers with the fragility of modern romantic relationships.
Splitsville picks up with Ashley (Adria Arjona) asking for a divorce, watching as the good-natured Carey (Kyle Marvin) runs to his friends, Julie (Dakota Johnson) and Paul (Covino), for support. He’s shocked to discover that the secret to their happiness is an open marriage; that is, until Carey crosses the line and throws all of their relationships into chaos.
Splitsville feels both ruthlessly timely and wonderfully old-fashioned – it has the buoyancy of 1930s screwball and the sting of post-Instagram intimacy.
