From the Academy Award and BAFTA-nominated producer of Philomena and The Duchess, Cottontail is a poignant tale of love, loss, and reconciliation.

After his wife Akiko’s death, Kenzaburo (Lily Franky - Shoplifters) and his son Toshi receive a posthumous letter from her, asking them to scatter her ashes at Lake Windermere, a place she cherished as a child. Initially conflicted, the family – including Toshi’s wife Satsuki and daughter Emi – travels from Tokyo to England to honour Akiko’s final wish.

As Kenzaburo’s memories of Akiko deepen, tensions rise between him and Toshi. Lost in grief and unfamiliar with his surroundings, Kenzaburo leaves his family in London and heads to the Lake District alone. There, he finds refuge with farmer John (Ciarán Hinds) and his daughter Mary (played by his real-life daughter Aoife Hinds), who help him continue his journey.

Ultimately, Kenzaburo’s path to forgiveness and healing proves more challenging than he imagined.
