A genre-defining movie referenced to this day in everything from TV and film to music and fashion, Enter the Dragon is arguably the best loved film from Bruce Lee’s tragically short career.
Alongside Lee is Jim Kelly - a karate champion with a formidable Afro haircut and laid-back countenance that suggested barely-channelled aggression. As an actor, Kelly was so self-controlled and deliberate he could make Lee look like Al Pacino. Kelly enjoyed a brief career as a star of B-movies, caught in a perfect storm between the twin booms in kung fu and blaxploitation.
It also stars the late, great film star John Saxon as a fellow tournament competitor. Saxon appeared in nearly 200 roles across film and TV over his more-than half-century-long career. Lee plays a Shaolin master sent on a mission by the secret service to infiltrate a crime lord’s private island by participating in a fighting tournament. Showcasing the star’s astonishing athletic ability as well as his joyous onscreen charisma and charm. The matches combine skills in Karate, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Tai Chi Chuan and HapKiDo.
An epically staged, ultra stylish and thrilling fight film of the highest order.
