“There was an old lady who swallowed a fly…”
David Cronenberg’s 1980’s update of Kurt Neumann’s classic 1958 monster movie is buzzing your way this Halloween season.
Journalist Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis) is sent on an assignment to write an article on Dr Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), an eccentric genius who is creating a device that can instantly transport matter from one location to another.
As they grow closer over the next few weeks, she assists with his experiment. But late one night – without her knowledge – he offers himself as a guinea pig to test the system, he enters the telepod, preparing to transmit himself through the ether – but he doesn’t know that he is sharing the telepod with a tiny housefly…
With amazingly gooey (and Oscar-winning!) special effects and a sweeping soundtrack by Howard Shore, The Fly was Cronenberg’s biggest commercial success to date and cemented his reputation as a master of the genre.
Transport yourself to The Odyssey this October… just check for unwelcome visitors before you close the hatch.
