After the passing of Stephen Hawking in March this year, The Odyssey is proud to celebrate one of the most extraordinary lives in human history with a showing of his biopic, The Theory of Everything.
Starring Eddie Redmayne as Hawking, in a powerhouse performance which won him the Academy Award for Best Actor. The film goes straight to Hawking’s days at Cambridge University — our only complaint of the film is this means it misses his time at school in St Albans! But once us St Albans natives get over that, it’s an enchanting piece from start to finish.
Brimming with confidence in his studies of cosmology, and a blossoming romance with fellow student Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones), the film examines his brief downfall as his muscles begin to fail. It’s no spoiler to say that Mr Hawking overcame his motor neurone disease diagnosis in spectacular fashion, and the way in which director James Marsh portrays this will only fill you with inspiration.
"Redmayne towers: this is an astonishing, genuinely visceral performance.” (The Guardian)
The Odyssey is very pleased to invite local charity MNDA South Herts www.mndasouthherts.org/ to help introduce the film and raise awareness about this disease. There will also be a collection on the night to help fundraise to support the work they do.
Come along and celebrate a great mind, and our local schools!
