Based on a true story. No, really. Tag is based on a real-life group of friends who would play a month-long game of tag (or ‘it’ for us Brits) every February for 28 years.
And what an ensemble cast: Jeremy Renner is Jerry, the only member of the gang who has never been ‘it’, thanks to his sheer athleticism and wits. He is looking to go out on a high and bring the game to an end with his marriage looming. As you can imagine, his friends are having none of it.
The casting is on point — Ed Helms (The Hangover) as Hogan. Jon Hamm (Mad Men) is the egotistical CEO, Jake Johnson (New Girl) as the stoner-divorcee, and Hannibal Buress, stealing a number of scenes with his jokes.
And that’s only the male side — Annabelle Wallis plays the Wall Street Journal writer who made the men famous, while Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) and Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) play two of the wives who have to put up with it all. The game is truly ruthless, and the resulting film is fun, funny and fantastical.
