Tis’ the season to be jolly and to watch the most beloved family Christmas film on the big screen.
8-year-old Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) is sent up to sleep in attic the night before a family Christmas vacation to France. In the morning, they accidently leave and head off without him. Believing his wish for his family to disappear has come true, he begins to live the life of luxury and ultimate freedom; that is until two con men (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) attempt to burgle his family home on Christmas Eve. Suddenly Kevin gains the knowledge of someone four times his age and creates the ultimate booby trapped house, to bring the burglars to justice.
Writer John Hughes had written the role for Culkin after they’d worked together on Uncle Buck, however, director Chris Columbus wanted to audition other kids first. After a few auditions he realised that no one apart from Culkin could play the role. Somehow he is able to make it seem reasonable that an 8-year-old could create some of the glorious traps that he does.
It is one for the whole family and definitely not one to miss.
