A modern-day Cinderella story with a lot more edge… and a lot more glamour.
Crazy Rich Asians begins in New York, with Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) teaching Economics at NYU. Despite her being half Chinese, she had never been to Asia, so her boyfriend Nick (Henry Golding) invites her to join him at a wedding in Singapore where he is going to be best man. As they travel together in a luxurious cabin it quickly becomes apparent that her seemingly normal boyfriend is, as the title suggests, crazy rich! Having always dodged questions about his family, he had never previously let on that he was, in fact, part of a property tycoon family in Singapore— with an overly protective mother to boot.
As Rachel tries to navigate the catty, glitzy world of Singapore’s elite, she finds herself coming up short in the eyes of Nick’s mother Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh). At least she has the support of her best friend, expertly played by Awkwafina, who packs major comedic punches.
Come and see riches the likes of which you’ve never seen before, along with the realistic, loveable characters that make this film a total hoot.
